Thomas H. Nolan, Jr.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Nolan joined us in September 2011 and currently serves as Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of the company. Prior to joining us, Mr. Nolan worked for General Growth Properties, Inc. (GGP) serving as a director for 6 years and as President and Chief Operating Officer for the last 2 years while at GGP. Mr. Nolan was a member of the senior management team that led GGP’s reorganization and emergence from bankruptcy, which included the restructuring of project-level debt, payment in full of all of GGP’s pre-petition creditors and the securing of equity commitments. Prior to his work with GGP, Mr. Nolan served for 4 years as a Principal and Chief Financial Officer of Loreto Bay Company, the developer of the Loreto Bay master planned community in Baja, California. For over 20 years, Mr. Nolan held various financial positions with AEW Capital Management, L.P., a national real estate investment advisor, and he spent the last 6 of those years as Head of Equity Investing and as President and Senior Portfolio Manager of The AEW Partners Funds. Mr. Nolan earned a BA in Business Administration from the University of Massachusetts.
President and Chief Operating Officer
Mr. Hsieh joined us in September 2016 and currently serves as President and Chief Operating Officer. As President and Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Hsieh will work directly for Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Tom Nolan, and have oversight responsibility for credit underwriting, new investments, and portfolio and asset management. Prior to joining Spirit, Mr. Hsieh worked for Morgan Stanley, where he served as Managing Director and a Vice Chairman of Investment Banking, primarily focusing on the firm’s real estate clients. Prior to rejoining Morgan Stanley, Jackson was Vice Chairman and Sole/Co-Global Head of UBS’s Real Estate Investment Banking Group, managing a team of over 70 professionals in six offices worldwide. During his career, including a prior period at Morgan Stanley and tenures at Bankers Trust Company and Salomon Brothers, Inc., he served as senior lead banker on over $285 billion of real estate and lodging transactions. Mr. Hsieh is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley, and earned a Master’s degree from Harvard University.
Phillip D. Joseph, Jr.
Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Serving as the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Spirit Realty since April 2015, Phil oversees all aspects of Finance, Accounting, Tax and Information Technology at the company. Phil has over 24 years of real estate expertise including developing, leading and executing capital markets, and financial planning and analysis activities. Prior to working at Spirit Realty, Phil served for more than 13 years at Prologis as their Managing Director and Global Treasurer. His experience and longevity in the real estate field provides a great benefit to the company.
Phil’s educational background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Economics & Management from DePauw University and a Masters of Business Administration from the JL Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University.
Executive Vice President and Chief Acquisition Officer
Boyd Messmann serves as Executive Vice President and Chief Acquisition Officer at Spirit Realty Capital. Mr. Messmann has more than 25 years of experience in commercial real estate and has closed more than $13B of transaction during his career. Prior to joining Spirit Realty Capital, Mr. Messmann spent the last six and half years with VEREIT Inc./Cole Real Estate Investments as Senior Vice President of Acquisitions, where he originated and closed approximately $4B of Single Tenant Net Leased Acquisitions. In that role, he was team lead for office and industrial acquisitions and responsible for identifying and evaluating acquisition opportunities, BTS opportunities, preliminary underwriting, and execution.
Prior to joining Cole, Mr. Messmann served as President and CEO of Blaire Energy, LLC, a company established to make investments in real estate, oil and gas, and provide advisory services to other entities and individuals. Mr. Messmann has also served as Senior Investment Officer for First Industrial Realty Trust, Inc., Senior Business Credit Development Manager for Wells Fargo Commercial Mortgage Origination Division, Regional Vice President Commercial Finance for Shell Capital Investment Banking Division, Vice President Corporate Finance for Franchise Finance Corporation of America/GE Capital, Senior Manager International Mergers and Acquisitions for Pepsico Inc,/YUM Brands, Vice President and Regional Director for Vanguard Management Service, Inc., and Senior Asset Manager/Acquisitions Manager for Lincoln Investment Management Company, the Investment banking Division of Lincoln National Corporation.
Mr. Messmann earned his Bachelor of Science degree in finance and
accounting from Indiana University and a Master of Business
Administration degree from the University of Kentucky.
Mr. Messmann has been a CCIM for the over 20 years, and is actively involved with multiple charities in the Dallas area.
Executive Vice President – General Counsel
Serving as the Executive Vice President and General Counsel at Spirit Realty Capital, Jay Young has responsibility for managing all aspects of the Company’s legal function, including corporate governance, securities compliance and the real estate transaction closing department. He also advises on the company’s equity plan administration, insurance program and capital markets transactions.
Jay has more than 20 years of experience advising publicly-traded companies. Before joining Spirit Realty Capital, Inc. (NYSE: SRC), he served as Senior Vice President and General Counsel for Wingstop, Inc. While at Wingstop, Jay helped lead the company through its successful IPO. Previously, he has also served as in-house counsel for CEC Entertainment, Wachovia Corporation and UBS.
Jay holds a B.A. in Economics degree from Southern Methodist University, a J.D. degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Law, and an M.B.A. degree from the University of Oklahoma Price College of Business.
Senior Vice President
Ms. Little joined us in May 2007 and has served in various capacities in the company. Currently she serves as Vice President, Investments and is responsible for sourcing, marketing, analyzing and overseeing the acquisition of new investment real estate opportunities. Prior to joining Spirit, Ms. Little, held roles in finance and real estate at Sprint Funding Corporation, a privately held mortgage company, Conseco Finance Corporation, a publicly held finance company and Norwest Finance Corp, (now Wells Fargo Finance). Ms. Little holds a BA in Economics from Southern Illinois University.
Senior Director – Acquisitions
Mr. Carstensen joined the Spirit team in August 2016 and currently serves as Sr. Director, Acquisitions. His primary responsibilities include sourcing, valuing and analyzing potential single tenant net lease real estate opportunities throughout the Eastern Region of the U.S. Eric comes to Spirit with 10 years of real estate experience from various roles in the net lease space including acquisitions, dispositions, asset management and underwriting. Prior to joining us, Eric served as a Sr. Manager at VEREIT, Inc. in both acquisitions and dispositions. Eric earned a B.B.A in Economics and Finance from the University of Iowa.
Senior Vice President
Mr. Rosenberg joined us in November 2007 and currently serves as Vice President of Asset Management. Mr. Rosenberg is responsible for special servicing and property management for the portfolio, including workouts, property sales, re-leasing and property management for vacant properties. Prior to joining us, Mr. Rosenberg served as an Associate at Greenblatt & Associates, a general law practice in Woodland Hills, CA. Mr. Rosenberg earned a BS from the University of Wisconsin – Madison, a J.D. from Whittier Law School, and an MBA from Arizona State University.
Director – Asset Management
Mr. Carter joined us in June 2013 and currently serves as Director of Asset Management. He is responsible for special servicing, credit monitoring, and property management for the portfolio, including workouts, property sales, re-leasing and property management for vacant properties. Prior to joining us, Mr. Carter served as Vice President of Real Estate Development at Community By Design, Inc., a mixed-use developer. Mr. Carter earned a BS in Real Estate and Finance and a MBA in Real Estate from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.
Director – Asset Management
Mr. Sorenson joined Spirit in September 2016 and serves as a Director of Asset Management. In this role, Mr. Sorenson and his team are currently responsible for managing one-third of Spirit’s real estate portfolio. Responsibilities include active portfolio management, dispositions, re-leasing, debt placement, special circumstances workouts, and property management. Prior to joining Spirit, Mr. Sorenson most recently served as Vice President of Dispositions for GE Capital Franchise Finance. In his role, Mr. Sorenson was responsible for asset management and dispositions for a portion of GEFF’s restaurant sale leaseback portfolio. Prior to that, Mr. Sorenson held positions at Regency Centers, a REIT focused on grocery-anchored shopping centers, and TransWestern, a multifaceted real estate services firm. Mr. Sorenson earned a BA from the University of Texas at Austin, and an MBA from SMU Cox School of Business.
Vice President – Investor Relations
Mr. Revol joined us in December 2016 and currently serves as Vice President of Investor Relations. Mr. Revol most recently served as a special situations equity analyst at HBK Capital Management. Prior to working at HBK, Mr. Revol was an equity analyst at SAC Capital/Everpoint Asset Management covering financial institutions, with a focus on REITs and real estate-related securities. Before moving to the buy side, Mr. Revol worked as an investment banker in the Financial Institutions Group at Goldman, Sachs & Co. and was a member of the Latin America investment banking group at UBS. Mr. Revol graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 2004 from both the Wharton School and the College of Arts and Sciences.
